Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Fatal pedestrian accidents are a significant problem in the United States. In 2015, there were 5,376 pedestrians killed in traffic accidents. These numbers are far too high and must be addressed by drivers and pedestrians.
In 2017, the number of pedestrian deaths rose 8%, reportedly due to distracted drivers and pedestrians who did not pay attention while crossing the street.
While it is true that most pedestrian accidents occur in urban areas, these statistics are not limited to the city streets. Pedestrian deaths have been recorded on rural roads, interstates, and highways.
This means that there should be more emphasis on safety campaigns that promote awareness of these issues to prevent these types of accidents from happening in future years.
