Traffic Accident Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 3 and 34. In 2016 alone, over 37,000 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents, and an additional 2.3 million were injured.
While many factors contribute to traffic accidents, some of the most common include distracted driving, drunk driving, and speeding. Distracted driving includes any activity that takes a driver’s attention away from the road, such as talking on the phone or eating. Drunk driving is any instance of operating a vehicle under alcohol or drugs.
Finally, speeding is simply driving too fast for the conditions. By obeying traffic laws and being aware of potential hazards, drivers can help to reduce their risk of being involved in a traffic accident.
