According to the California Highway Patrol, as a result of the head-on collision between a motorcycle and a car, a 47-year-old Fresno man died at a Madera intersection Friday, September 16, 2022.
The crash occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Avenue 12, west of Road 33.
The CHP claims that a 2005 Nissan Altima traveling east entered the westbound lane as the man was driving a 2001 Harley-Davidson near Avenue 12.
According to CHP, the Altima’s 42-year-old El Sobrante driver was passing slower traffic on the highway southeast of Madera. Turning south off the road, the driver and the Harley rider tried to avert the fatal collision.
According to CHP, they made direct contact. At the scene, he was identified as deceased.
Despite being properly buckled up, the driver of the Nissan and his passengers—a woman and two kids—were all treated for what the CHP described as minor wounds.
According to CHP, the crash is still being investigated, but there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Motorcycle Crash Statistics
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says there were 82,000 motorcycle injuries and 4,985 motorcycle deaths in 2018. This means that motorcycle riders are involved in 11% of all traffic accidents in the country.
This is not surprising since people in enclosed cars are 16 times more likely to get hurt or die in a car accident than those on motorcycles.
Even though California has beautiful weather, it is not a safe place for people who ride motorcycles. The state with the most registered motorcycles in California has more than 800,000. In 2017, there were 16,505 motorcycle accidents in California, which hurt 15,527 people and killed 541.
Wearing a helmet is the only way to keep your head from getting hurt badly. The study found that helmets cut the number of motorcycle-related deaths by 37%. The rest of their body could still be vulnerable to getting sick.
Most motorcycle accidents are caused by drunk or careless drivers, bad weather, going the wrong way, or breaking traffic laws.
