Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian accidents are a serious problem in the United States. In 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed in motor vehicle accidents, and another 70,000 were injured.

Pedestrian accidents are often caused by driver error, such as distracted driving or failure to yield the right way. However, pedestrians can also be at fault. Jaywalking, for example, is a leading cause of pedestrian accidents.

Drivers and pedestrians must be aware of their surroundings and obey traffic laws. Drivers should always yield to pedestrians, and pedestrians should only cross at designated crosswalks. By taking these simple precautions, we can help make our roads safer for everyone.
