[09-28-2026] Kern County, CA – Four Killed in Fiery Two-Vehicle Crash in Bakersfield

Four people were killed in a fiery two-vehicle collision on Highway 58 in east Bakersfield on Monday morning, September 28, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 58 just east of Edison Road.

CHP said a Hyundai Tucson was traveling eastbound while a Toyota Corolla carrying a driver and two passengers was traveling westbound. For reasons that remain under investigation, the Hyundai veered left, crossed the center divider, and collided head-on with the Toyota.

Both vehicles caught fire with their occupants inside. All four people involved were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said it was not immediately known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
