According to the police, an unidentified bicyclist was killed in a late-night hit-and-run collision in the Florence neighborhood of South LA on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on 61st Street.
Detectives reportedly spent the entire night in the area looking for information that could identify the crash’s driver, according to residents of a nearby neighborhood.
According to a press release from the police, the van is possibly a white 1996 to 2022 GMC Savana or Chevrolet Express commercial panel van with a roof rack and conduit carrier, the carrier being a box or tube of storage on the van’s roof.
They added that the van probably sustained front damage due to the collision.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the cyclist was riding northbound on Wall Street during the time of the collision.
The cyclist was seen being dragged 30 feet along the road by the van after it struck him or her on security footage of the incident.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The LA County Coroner’s office has not yet disclosed their identity.
The public is being urged by police to look out for the van.
LAPD Detective Juan Campos believes the van is possibly local in the area, on their way home.
