Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Sadly, a significant number of people in California die in accidents involving only one car. Damage is limited to the vehicle(s) involved in the collision. It’s possible the car went off the road or crashed into a building. There are a number of causes for these accidents, including intoxicated drivers, drivers who are too tired to drive safely, low visibility, and bad weather.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that single-vehicle accidents account for 62% of fatalities on California’s roadways. Drivers in California must always be on the lookout for potential danger.

A number of different things can cause a single-vehicle accident. More accidents and runaways occur when drivers are going fast or making sharp turns on wet roads. Any number of things, from flying cargo from a passing truck to branches from nearby trees, can pose a threat to drivers on the side of the road.

Even if the single-car accident is not the result of anyone’s negligence, the extent to which you can recover under your insurance policy will likely be constrained.
