Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Congestion is a big problem on some of the busiest roads in the world in the United States. About 280 million cars are registered in the United States, and 227.5 million people use cars daily.

At least six million car accidents happen every year in the United States. Every year, more than 38,000 people die in car accidents, making them the country’s most common cause of death.

One example is when more than one car crashes into another. A “multi-vehicle collision” is any accident that involves three or more cars. When two cars crash on the highway and one hits the other, this is called a “chain-reaction crash.”

Every year, tens of thousands of people die, and millions are hurt in car accidents on American roads. Most of the time, these accidents happen because someone was driving drunk, too fast, or while being distracted.
