According to the Pasadena Police Department, one person was injured after a stolen vehicle pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash on 210 Freeway in Pasadena Saturday, October 22, 2022.
According to Pasadena police Lt. Rudy Lemos, the crash occurred at around 4:00 p.m. at Lake Street near the 210 Freeway.
According to Lemos, someone in a struck vehicle complained of pain and was given medical attention at the scene.
According to Lemos, the police tried to pull the car over for a traffic violation, but the driver sped off. Given the presence of a police helicopter, it was decided to call off the pursuit on the ground.
Attempting to get away, the suspects collided with two cars on the eastbound freeway near the Sierra Madre Boulevard exit, according to Lemos.
The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of auto theft, drug possession, and warrant service. The lieutenant said that one passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant, and another was questioned and released.
It was reported that the off-ramp to Sierra Madre Boulevard had been closed while police conducted their inquiry.
Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics
Millions are injured, and tens of thousands are killed in traffic accidents yearly in the United States. According to the Fatality Analysis System of the United States Department of Transportation, 36,560 people lost their lives in automobile accidents in 2017. (FARS).
In 2018, 327 of the city’s car accidents involved speeding, a 15% decrease from the previous year. From 2017 to 2018, the number of drunk driving accidents decreased by 32%, from 220 to 174. But drivers shouldn’t relax their caution as a result. Avoiding catastrophic traffic collisions still requires cautious driving behavior on the part of drivers.
Three or more vehicles colliding on the road constitutes a multi-vehicle accident. “Chain reaction” accidents occur when one car collides with another or multiple vehicles.
Multi-vehicle accidents make up less than 10% of all collisions annually. Notwithstanding, the NHTSA claims that they account for a disproportionate share of traffic-related fatalities.
