According to the authorities, one person was fatally injured after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash in Torrance in Los Angeles Thursday, October 27, 2022.
According to Torrance Police Sgt. Ron Salary, the crash was reported at about 7:35 a.m. in the 2700 block of Artesia Boulevard.
Initial findings from the investigation showed that a white 2005 Ford truck was traveling west on Artesia Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a black 2000 Toyota truck that was also traveling west on Artesia Boulevard, Salary said in a statement.
As a result of the impact, Salary said, the driver of the white truck lost control of his vehicle and ran into a pedestrian standing on the south sidewalk of Artesia Boulevard.
According to Salary, the Ford truck crashed into a house, stopped, and the driver ran away. There was no description of the driver available.
The victim, a 78-year-old man from Torrance, California, was a pedestrian who was fatally injured. His identity was withheld until his family could be notified.
According to Salary, the Toyota truck driver, a 44-year-old man from Gardena, was taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries. According to the reports, nobody else was hurt.
As police looked into the situation, Artesia Boulevard was shut down between Atkinson Street and Van Ness Avenue.
