Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

Accidents and fatalities involving pedestrians have increased in recent years. There have been an alarmingly high number of pedestrian fatalities in recent years.

Recent findings have shown that California has the highest risk of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries when compared to other states. In California in 2012, there were 893 pedestrian fatalities and more than 14,000 injuries.

When a vehicle collides with another but leaves the scene without stopping to render aid, the collision is known as a hit-and-run (this includes drivers fleeing the scene on foot). In addition to the suffering and social and economic costs associated with injury crashes, hit-and-run incidents can worsen outcomes because victims are frequently delayed or do not receive medical attention.

There are increasingly more hit-and-run fatalities, according to recent studies. In 2020, hit-and-run accidents were the cause of 24% of all pedestrian fatalities.

Failure to yield to pedestrians or braking too suddenly is one of the main causes of pedestrian fatalities and injuries. To lessen their risk of suffering injuries in these collisions, pedestrians should use sidewalks whenever possible, refrain from using drugs and alcohol while walking, and proceed with caution when crossing parking lots or driveways.
