[11-04-2022] Fresno County, CA – One Person Killed in DUI Multi-Vehicle Collision Near Easton

The CHP reported that one person was killed following a head-on collision brought on by a suspected drunk driver that involved three vehicles near Easton on Friday afternoon, November 04, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle collision occurred at 4:10 p.m. on Elm and American Avenues.

The police revealed that Jamie F., 66-year-old from Fresno, was traveling on a silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata sedan south on Elm Avenue. Upon nearing a four-way stop at American Avenue, he veered into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason.

The Hyundai hit a gold 2002 Pontiac Grand Am head-on, injuring the driver of the Pontiac and sending him to the Community Regional Medical Center, where he passed away from injuries. His passenger was also taken to the hospital for sustaining major injuries. They were not identified.

A third vehicle, a 2005 Honda coupe that was trailing the Pontiac, swerved to try to avoid the crash but ended up in a ditch. The driver also sustained minor injuries, according to the officials.

Figueroa was seriously hurt. As soon as he is discharged from the hospital, he will be booked into the Fresno County Jail on accusations of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

The speed of the Hyundai at the moment of the collision was unknown to the CHP at the time. Further investigation is being conducted.
