The California Highway Patrol reported that three people were injured in a vehicle rollover brought on by a suspected DUI driver near University City and Clairemont on early Sunday morning, November 6, 2022.
According to the CHP, a wrong-way vehicle suspected of DUI crashed around 5:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 805 and onto State Route 52.
The driver, along with two passengers, was traveling south in the north lanes of I-805 when they smashed through the center divider and rolled off an embankment close to the transition of I-805 and SR-52, where it ended up overturned in the westbound lane of 52.
Reports from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department stated that the three occupants were trapped inside the vehicle until the firefighters extricated them.
All three were transported by paramedics to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment after sustaining mild to moderate injuries.
According to CHP Officer Jesse Matias, authorities later detained the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Although the wrong-way vehicle did not hit other cars traveling the opposite way, the debris from the collisions resulted in some minor secondary collisions. But no additional injuries were reported.
