[11-07-2022] Los Angeles County, CA – One Man Killed in Car Crash on I-5

The California Highway Patrol reported that one man was killed after exiting his vehicle and getting hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 5 on Monday morning, November 7, 2022.

According to the CHP, responders were dispatched to the collision at 3:13 a.m. on Interstate 5 near Highway 126.

CHP Newhall Officer Josh Greengard said the first collision involved a single-car crash. A 27-year-old Los Angeles driver traveling south on a 2010 Honda Civic on I-5, north of Rye Canyon Road, made a hazardous left turn for some reason, lost control, and slammed into the concrete K-rail in the center divider.

Greengard stated that the vehicle wound up immobile and that the individual was reportedly not in his car when he was hit by a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 31-year-old Simi Valley resident in a matter of seconds.

The Simi Valley man was in the southbound No. 3 lane when the collision forced the car to veer to the west and in front of him. The left side of the Honda was struck by the Chevrolet.

Medical responders and Los Angeles County Fire Department officers arrived on the scene and found a male dead in the southbound No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of the I-5 highway. It was not immediately known whether the pickup’s driver was intoxicated.

All southbound lanes were shut down due to the deadly collision, and at 3:29 in the morning, a SigAlert was sent out. The CHP issued a traffic advisory, and the SigAlert persisted for almost five hours before every lane was restored.

The CHP’s Newhall Office is looking into the collision.
