Fatal Big Rig Collision Statistics

Nearly 4,000 fatal tractor-trailer accidents occurred in the US in 2015, according to the US Department of Transportation.

Fatal accidents involving semi-trucks increased by 22% between 2009 and 2015. Tractor trailers were responsible for one out of every ten traffic fatalities in the same year.

American highways are often filled with enormous commercial trucks with various names. These trucks are also known as big rigs, 18-wheelers, tractor-trailers, and semi-trailers.

Some of the deadliest collisions on American highways and roads involve trucks. Because tractor-trailers and passenger cars are vastly different in size, big rig accidents frequently result in more fatalities than accidents involving other types of vehicles.

Investigations into 18-wheeler collisions must take into account several factors. Loss of truck control, tire blowouts, incapacitating or non-capacitating vehicle malfunctions, excessive speed, lane drifting, improper truck maneuvers, and driver fatigue are some of the causes of these accidents.
