Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety estimates that around 680,000 people are wounded or killed in hit-and-run accidents in the United States each year. According to recent statistics, the number of fatalities caused by hit-and-runs is rising. These accident-related deaths accounted for 24% of all pedestrian fatalities in 2020.
According to studies, California has the most significant pedestrian fatalities and injuries rate compared to other states. In 2012, nearly 14,000 pedestrians were injured, and 893 were killed in California.
A hit-and-run accident happens when a vehicle is engaged in a collision but does not stop to help. Because victims usually delay or do not receive treatment for their injuries, hit-and-run accidents can worsen outcomes and increase suffering.
A pedestrian’s death or injury is frequently caused when automobiles fail to yield to pedestrians or brake quickly.
As a precaution, pedestrians should walk on sidewalks whenever possible, avoid drinking and using drugs while walking, and use caution when crossing parking lots and driveways.
