Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety estimates that every year, 680,000 Americans are injured or killed in hit-and-run accidents. In recent years, hit-and-runs have increased fatalities. In 2020, these mishaps were a factor in 24% of all pedestrian fatalities.

According to recent research, California has the highest risk of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries compared to other states. Approximately 893 pedestrians were killed, and nearly 14,000 were injured in California in 2012.

A hit-and-run accident occurs when one vehicle collides with another and flees the scene without stopping to help. In addition to the agony and suffering and the social and economic costs of injury accidents, hit-and-run instances can worsen outcomes because victims are frequently delayed or do not receive medical assistance.

Vehicles that fail to yield to pedestrians or suddenly brake are more likely to kill or injure them. As a precaution, pedestrians should walk on sidewalks whenever possible, avoid using drugs and alcohol while walking, and exercise caution across parking lots and driveways.
