A two-vehicle crash left four people injured in Porterville on Wednesday afternoon, December 7, 2022.
Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 1:22 p.m. on Highway 65 and Avenue 56.
According to reports, a 46-year-old man drove a 2011 Dodge Nitro northbound on Highway 65 with three child passengers when he approached a red light at Avenue 56 at 55 mph.
At the same time, officers say a 39-year-old 2018 Toyota Camry driver with one passenger traveled eastbound, approaching a green light at State Route 65 at an unknown speed.
The Dodge driver passed the red light, driving right into the path of the Toyota, causing the Dodge’s front to collide with the Toyota’s driver’s side.
Responders rushed to the scene and airlifted the Toyota driver to Kern Medical Center with critical injuries, while the passenger was transferred to Sierra View Medical Center with moderate injuries.
A Dodge passenger suffered significant injuries and was brought to Sierra View Medical Center, while the driver of the Dodge had minor injuries.
The other two occupants in the Dodge were not injured.
Investigations on the collision are still underway.
