DUI Accident Statistics
A person’s risk of being involved in a car accident that results in serious or fatal injuries is greatly increased if they had been drinking or using drugs before getting behind the wheel.
Drunk driving is responsible for roughly 10,000 annual deaths in the United States, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. About 18% of all traffic deaths involve drug use.
The 30,000 annual injuries and 2,000 annual deaths caused by car accidents in California are greatly impacted by drunk driving. The penalties for drunk driving might be several thousand dollars, depending on the driver’s age and the value of the car they were operating.
Drunk drivers pose a greater risk to other motorists because they are less able to control their vehicles, make good decisions, and act swiftly in an emergency. Everyone in California would be at risk if they took to the streets.
