[12-13-2022] Stanislaus County, CA – 41-Year-Old Male Pedestrian Struck and Killed by DUI Driver in Modesto

A 41-year-old male pedestrian riding his personal mobility device was struck and killed by a car in Modesto on late Tuesday evening, December 13, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash involving an alleged DUI driver occurred shortly before midnight on Service Road near Esmar Road.

The responders arrived at the scene to find the victim struck from behind by a Toyota driver. He was declared dead on the spot.

CHP officials found that the individual was traveling at night in a neighborhood without any streetlights and without any lights on his device.

The driver, identified as Kayla E., that struck him was traveling at around 65 mph and reportedly didn’t try to avoid him. She phoned 911 and was later detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

There is currently no additional information available as the crash is being investigated.
