Two people were hospitalized, including a drunk racing driver, following a two-vehicle collision in Moreno Valley on Wednesday evening, December 21, 2022.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated that the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Alessandro Boulevard and Elsworth Street.
The racing driver, 19-year-old Tyler H., was driving west on Alessandro in a 2006 Ford 500 when he reportedly increased his speed way beyond the speed limit while battling with a dark-colored sedan.
When the two racers approached the junction, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup eastbound on Alessandro began turning north onto Elsworth and crashed with the Ford, disabling both vehicles.
The driver of the dark-colored vehicle reportedly departed the scene. No specifics about the car, including its registration plate, were available.
The paramedics and deputies arrived on the scene and discovered the truck driver suffering severe wounds. The unidentified victim was brought to neighboring Riverside University Medical Center for treatment, now in stable condition.
The racing driver also required treatment for sustaining minor injuries. He was detained in the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of DUI and engaging in a speed race, but he was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
No additional information is available at the moment.
Drunk Driving Accident Statistics
Over 10,000 deaths a year are attributed to drunk driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. About 20% of fatal car accidents are related to substance misuse, with the total percentage being around 15%.
Annually, 30,000 people are injured and 2,000 people are killed in car accidents in California. Drunk driving is a major contributing cause. Many thousands of dollars could be lost by the driver as a result of a conviction for driving under the influence, especially if the driver is an older person or if the car is expensive.
Due to impaired judgment, slower reaction times, and less control of their vehicles, drunk drivers present a greater risk to other motorists. Putting oneself in danger is something no one should ever do on purpose.
Injury victims in vehicle accidents caused by intoxicated drivers are never to blame. Don’t sign anything or participate in any interviews before seeing an attorney. First things first: talk to an attorney who specializes in lawsuits involving accidents caused by intoxicated drivers.
