Truck Accident Statistics
According to the US Department of Transportation, about 4,000 tractor-trailer crashes resulted in fatalities in 2015.
Between 2009 and 2015, the percentage of fatalities in semi-truck collisions jumped by a shocking 22%. A tractor-trailer was involved in one of every ten road deaths in 2015.
Big rigs, or commercial trucks, are the most common vehicles on American roads. This type of truck is also known as a big rig, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and semi-trailer.
Large commercial trucks are involved in many fatal American highways and road accidents. Accidents involving big rigs usually result in more fatalities than other traffic disasters due to the enormous size differential between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car.
Several aspects need to be considered when investigating 18-wheeler accidents. Loss of truck control, tire blowouts, incapacitating or non-capacitating vehicle difficulties, excessive speed, lane drifting, inappropriate truck maneuvering, and driver fatigue are the most common causes of severe truck accidents.
