[12-22-2023] Contra Costa County, CA – At Least One Person Hospitalized Following Two-Vehicle Crash in Byron

At least one person was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Byron, Contra Costa County, on Friday night, December 22, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. in front of the Byron United Methodist Church on Byron Highway, past the intersection at Holway Drive.

An Acura Integra was traveling north on the highway at high speed when it drifted into the southbound lane and struck a Toyota Sequoia with four people, including two children.

Major injuries were sustained by the Acura driver, and he was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The passengers in the Toyota sustained minor injuries, but the two children were unharmed.

The police are unsure whether alcohol played a role in the accident. The Sequoia was driving around the speed limit when it was involved in the accident

The identities of the victim and other people involved remain unknown at this time. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are gathering all the necessary information.
