A pedestrian collision claimed the life of a 53-year-old man, identified as Luis R., in Barstow on Wednesday night, February 8, 2023.
Reports indicated that the crash transpired around 6:59 p.m. near Lenwood Road and Tortoise Road, located in the open desert just under a mile northeast of Barstow’s commercial center for Interstate 15.
The popular rest stop is located halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
According to reports, the 53-year-old pedestrian was walking in the area when he was struck by a vehicle.
Responders immediately transported the victim to a local area hospital, likely dying a day later, on February 9.
Officials reveal that the final report has yet to be completed, which means the crash is still under investigation. Still, there was no sign of foul play, and the fatal collision appeared to be entirely an accident.
The driver was not, or did not appear to be, under the influence.
