[08-02-2022] Fresno County, CA - Police Officer Injured After a Rear-End Collision in ClovisAccording to police, a Clovis Police Department officer was involved in a rear-end crash and sustained a hand injury on Tuesday, August 02, 2022.

According to the authorities, the crash happened shortly before midnight on Minnewawa Avenue.

The police stated on the post that they did not activate lights or sirens because the officer was not responding to an emergency. He had a green light as he approached the intersection at Alluvial Avenue and collided with a Tesla that had run a red light.

The damage to the vehicle showed that the cruiser’s front driver’s side collided with the Tesla’s rear driver’s side.

According to police, the officer was treated for a hand injury caused by the airbag. He returned to duty on the same shift.

Both cats were towed from the crossroads, and the impact on traffic was minimal.

According to department spokesperson Ty Wood, Clovis police officers have been involved in eight collisions this year; in comparison, there were only eight in all of 2021.

Rear-End Accident Statistics

Rear-end collisions are common on roads when hundreds of automobiles travel at high speeds close to each other. This makes it difficult for many drivers approaching an accident to stop at a safe distance, perhaps causing them to collide with other vehicles.

According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, over 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle incidents involving passenger automobiles, accounting for more than 40% of all motor vehicle accidents each year.

In 2016, there were roughly 2,807 total accidents in Fresno County. There were 65 (2.3 %) bicycle accidents, 148 (5.3%) motorcycle accidents, and 84 (3 %) pedestrian accidents among these crashes. Unfortunately, these incidents resulted in 4,273 victims suffering devastating injuries and 112 victims dying due to their injuries.

Unfortunately, many Fresno rear-end collisions occur because one of the drivers was texting while driving, causing the motorist behind to hit them or not know that the car in front of them had come to a stop or had slowed and crashed into them.
