Traffic Accident Statistics
Traffic accidents are a common occurrence on the roads. They can happen for many reasons, such as driver error, weather conditions, or mechanical failure. When they occur, they can often result in serious injuries or fatalities.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, traffic fatalities decreased 5.1% from 3,798 in 2018 to 3,606 in 2019. The Mileage Death Rate (MDR) fatalities per 100 million miles traveled are 1.06.
One of the most dangerous types of traffic accidents is a head-on collision. This occurs when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide with each other. Head-on collisions are dangerous because the drivers and passengers in both vehicles are essentially hit twice: once by their car and again by the car coming towards them. As a result, head-on collisions often result in very serious injuries or fatalities.
Another type of dangerous traffic accident is a rear-end collision. This happens when one vehicle crashes into the back of another car. Rear-end collisions are often caused by drivers not paying attention to the road, which can often be very serious. In fact, they are the number one cause of injury-related deaths in traffic accidents.
Despite the dangers, it is important to remember that traffic accidents can be avoided if we all take precautions on the road. By following the rules of the road, driving defensively, and paying attention to our surroundings, we can help reduce the risk of getting into an accident.
