An 11-year-old boy died after a hit-and-run accident in West Valley City late Wednesday night.
The accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on a sidewalk along 4000 West near 4200 South.
According to local authorities, the woman and her son were walking on a sidewalk when a car hit them.
According to Roxeanne V., a police spokeswoman, the mother was not struck.
The car struck the boy, then re-entered the road and continued traveling.
The young man was taken to a nearby hospital, succumbing to his wounds later.
Vainuku claimed that the mother and son had taken a bus home after spending the evening sightseeing in downtown Salt Lake City.
According to the police, the possible color of the vehicle was a light-colored or gray Toyota Tacoma or comparable pickup truck with front-end damage.
On Thursday, detectives were expected to return to the area to look for more proof.
