Local authorities reported that a driver and passenger died in a collision off a freeway in the Chula Vista region on Saturday morning, October 1, 2022.
According to Officer Ryan Culver with the Chula Vista Police Department, the collision happened around 9:53 a.m. close to the intersection of East Palomar Street and the Interstate 805 freeway offramp.

Their identities are not disclosed until the family members are informed.

Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
California has a shockingly high rate of fatalities from single-vehicle accidents. In the event of a collision involving only one vehicle, only that vehicle will sustain damage. Possible causes include veering off the road or crashing into a stationary object. Drunk driving, drowsy driving, poor visibility, and inclement weather are all factors in these accidents.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in California, a single-vehicle accident accounts for 62% of all traffic fatalities. Drivers in California need to stay alert at all times and aware of their surroundings to prevent accidents.
There are many potential contributors to a single-vehicle accident. When the roads are wet, runaways and accidents happen more frequently, especially when drivers are going fast or making sharp turns. Potential roadside hazards include things like truck cargo and fallen trees or branches.
Your ability to recover damages may be severely restricted regardless of who was at fault in the event of an accident involving only one vehicle.
