[10-13-2022] Scooter Rider Suffered Major Injuries After Vehicle Ran Over in VistaAccording to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a driver of an SUV struck a woman who was riding an electric scooter, severely injuring her in Vista Thursday, October 13, 2022.

According to the deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Vista station, the crash occurred at 8:00 p.m. at the 1600 block of South Melrose Drive.

Sgt. Eric Cottrell said they found out that the scooter rider was hit by a car crossing the entrance to a bank parking lot as a Mitsubishi Outlander was leaving.

According to the sheriff’s office, the person was run over and dragged for a short distance before the driver could stop.

She was stuck under the car until the Vista Fire Department came and helped her get out.

Cottrell said that the woman was taken to a hospital with severe but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and helped the police figure out what had happened. He said that neither alcohol nor drugs seemed to factor in the accident.

The cause of the crash is still being looked into.
