DUI Accident Statistics

One of our most fundamental rights is the freedom to use roads without fear of harm. The safety of road users is compromised when drunk drivers take to the wheel. Drunk driving is illegal in every state due to strict legislation.

A person’s behavior is guaranteed to be reckless if they get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs. Anyone who has been drinking and then gets behind the wheel is endangering everyone else on the road.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drunk driving causes the deaths of approximately 10,000 people annually. Drug or alcohol use is a contributing factor in about 18% of all fatal car accidents.

More than 2,000 people lose their lives, and 30,000 are injured due to drunk driving accidents each year in California. The state has different requirements for different ages and different types of vehicles for driving drunk.

The intoxicated driver often has difficulty with all three of these areas: vision, decision-making, and reaction time. Drunk drivers pose a particularly severe threat to public safety on the most dangerous highways in California because of their impaired senses and mental state.
