[10-26-2022] San Diego County, CA – One Killed, Two Injured in Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash on South Bay Near Otay Mesa

The California Highway Patrol, after a car veered off the freeway, one person was killed, and two others were seriously injured near Otay Mesa Wednesday morning, October 26, 2022.

According to CHP spokesperson Salvador Castro, the single-vehicle crash transpired around 3:15 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 805 connector to westbound I-905.

Three women were trapped inside a BMW after its 18-year-old driver lost control and went off the road.

Castro said that crews from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were able to free the three women trapped in the vehicle.

According to CHP, a female passenger was fatally injured in the collision. The driver and passenger suffered critical injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The ramp from southbound I-805 to westbound I-905 was closed after a sig-alert was issued so that the California Highway Patrol could finish their investigation. Approximately four hours were lost due to the closure.

It is unclear at this time whether or not drug or alcohol use contributed to the events that led up to the collision.

The CHP has called for potential witnesses to contact their special investigations team at 858-293-6000.
