Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

It’s illegal to flee the scene of an accident. In the United States, a hit-and-run accident happens every day. More than 2,000 people have died in hit-and-run incidents in the United States since 2006.

There have been more hit-and-run accidents lately. Since 2009, hit-and-run drivers have been responsible for 7% more fatalities. People are dying in more accidents, and hit-and-run drivers are a significant factor in this upward trend.

Over the previous five years, there was one pedestrian accident on average per year. Nearly half of these incidents result in injuries, even though about one in twenty results in fatalities. The afternoon and early evening are typically when these incidents occur more frequently.

Pedestrians should only cross the street at designated crosswalks and always walk against the traffic flow to avoid being struck by a car. Before crossing the street, always look both ways to give yourself enough time to do so before the next vehicle arrives.
