[11-04-2022] Wrong-Way Driver Collided with Another Vehicle in Chula VistaThe local authorities reported a two-vehicle collision involving a wrong-way driver in Chula Vista on Friday morning, November 4, 2022.

According to the officers, the crash that occurred at 11:25 a.m. on Interstate 5 involved a female driver of a Volkswagen along with her grandmother and a male driver of a Nissan.

The Volkswagen was approaching the freeway on-ramp from E Street when it was struck by the Nissan traveling the wrong way on southbound I-5.

The Nissan emerged from the vegetation area of the gore point between the E Street off-ramp and the on-ramp when it hit the Volkswagen.

It is speculated that the male driver may have experienced a medical episode that caused him to veer off the road and into the wooden vegetation area, through a homeless camp, and onto the ramp. He got back on the road and hit the k-rail wall, then the Volkswagen.

The Nissan veered off into the bushes due to the collision, leaving the Volkswagen to stop in the traffic lane. Some people stopped and assisted the victims.

The collision didn’t result in any injuries. Further investigation is being conducted.
