A driver was killed and a deputy was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision in Oro Grande, San Bernardino County, on Christmas night, Sunday, December 25, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred shortly before 9:18 p.m. at the National Trails Highway and Hibiscus Street intersection.
Responders arrived at the scene and discovered a severely damaged Chevy Impala and a patrol vehicle of a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy.
The Impala was entirely engulfed in flames off the road, and it took some time for the responders to locate the driver, who was ejected from the car and was declared dead on the spot.
The deputy was found unconscious in their patrol car and was airlifted via an H82 helicopter to a trauma center. Their current condition remains unknown.
No other information was immediately available, and the cause of the crash was being investigated by the authorities.
