According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Padres pitcher Blake S. was involved in a minor collision during a traffic stop when a suspected DUI driver hit his vehicle on the side of Interstate 5 on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Officer Jesse Matias stated that California Highway Patrol (CHP) got a call of an accident at about 10:56 p.m. on I-5 northbound, north of state Route 56.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Snell was not injured in the collision, but a passenger in his car sustained minor injuries. The Padres’ medical staff cleared the pitcher to take the mound.
Matias stated that the driver of the Toyota, a 39-year-old Vista man, was not injured. He was later detained on suspicion of driving under the influence.
There were no further reports of injuries.
The CHP is still investigating the cause of the collision.
