According to the police, an SUV struck a 43-year-old homeless woman identified as Jessica J. killing both the woman and her dog in Anaheim on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
According to Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer, the crash occurred around 9:25 p.m. on Euclid Street near Cris Avenue.
According to Carringer, the 43-year-old woman was found with serious injuries, along with a dead dog, in the southbound lanes of Euclid Street. The female pedestrian was taken to a nearby trauma facility. She was, however, declared dead.
According to Orange County Sheriff Scott Steinle, the victim is a Fullerton resident.
Steinle said the preliminary investigation revealed that the woman, a transient living in the area, and her dog were trying to cross Euclid Street illegally when a southbound motorist struck them.
According to the investigators, the driver of the Dodge SUV, a 22-year-old man, stayed at the scene and didn’t seem to be intoxicated.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
When hit by a car, pedestrians have a much higher risk of death or serious injury. Pedestrians have no protection in the event of a collision between two vehicles.
In the United States, there has been a rise in the number of pedestrian deaths and injuries. The number of pedestrian deaths has been disturbingly high for a long time.
The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that pedestrian fatalities increased by 27% during that period despite a 14% decrease in overall traffic fatalities between 2007 and 2016.
5,977 pedestrians lost their lives in the United States in 2017. Late in 2016, statistics showed that 88 people were dying every minute.
The nonfatal pedestrian injuries in 2017 accounted for as many as 137,000 emergency room visits.
Recent studies have shown that pedestrians in California have a higher risk of injury or death than those in other states.
In 2012, 893 people were killed, and over 14,000 were injured in California pedestrian accidents.
Accidents involving pedestrians frequently occur when drivers fail to yield or brake abruptly, causing collisions or falls. If you plan to take legal action, you should hire competent legal representation.
