Pedestrian Accident Statistics

When a pedestrian is involved in an accident, the likelihood of injuries increases considerably. Because they are the least protected, pedestrians are fully susceptible to motor vehicles. Almost 7,000 pedestrians were killed in vehicle incidents on our country’s highways in 2020.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, most pedestrian traffic deaths in 2020 occurred in urban areas (80%), on open roads (76%), compared to junctions (24%), and in low-light circumstances (76%).

You may make an effort to keep yourself safe as a pedestrian. Cross at a recognized crosswalk or crossroads whenever possible. When walking, avoid utilizing devices that might provide distractions, such as headphones.

Drivers should always be alert and watch out for pedestrians, especially in areas where there are likely to be pedestrians present (such as near schools or playgrounds). By taking these precautions, we can help make our roads safer for everyone.
