A 27-year-old man identified as Shaun N. was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer rig in Ceres on Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2022.
According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 4:13 p.m. on Highway 99 in Ceres.
According to the initial investigation, William H., 73, of Stockton, was operating a 2018 Freightliner big rig as it approached Hatch Road in the north.
According to the CHP release, Neuman was standing on the right shoulder when he suddenly ran directly west into the #3 lane, directly into the truck’s path.
The right front of the Freightliner struck Neuman, who was declared dead at the scene because Hutton did not have enough time to avoid the collision.
Hutton reported no injuries, nor did his passenger.
The CHP’s initial report on the pedestrian indicated that he was a Vallejo resident. This was later corrected.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrians are much more likely to sustain life-threatening injuries or even death if they are struck by a car. Pedestrians would suffer the most in the event of a collision between two vehicles.
In America, there has been a rise in both the number of pedestrian deaths and the severity of those injuries. For quite some time, the number of pedestrian fatalities has been distressingly high.
A report by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) found that between 2007 and 2016, the number of pedestrian deaths increased by 27%, while the number of traffic deaths decreased by 14%.
In 2017, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in the United States. Statistics indicated that 88 people were losing their lives each and every minute by late 2016.
At least 137,000 people in 2017 were taken to the hospital due to nonfatal pedestrian injuries.
Recent research indicates that pedestrians in California face a higher risk of injury or death than those in other states.
893 pedestrians died, and more than 14,000 were injured in California in 2012.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries frequently result from drivers who fail to yield or who brake too suddenly. The best course of action if you want to go to court is to get yourself a good lawyer.
