Bicycle Accident Statistics
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that there were 846 fatal bicycle accidents this year, down from 871 the previous year. Bicycles were involved in 80% of traffic fatalities, while motor vehicles were only responsible for 2% of deaths.
Bikes are regarded as motor vehicles in the state of California. The rules are the same whether you’re on a bike or in a car. These people must follow all traffic regulations, ride in a straight line, and stop at all red lights.
Many drivers who pass cyclists too closely violate their rights. A chance of harm or death exists.
Compared to other US states, California has experienced the highest bicycle fatalities. The high frequency of collisions between these two types of transportation in urban areas, where they are most common, is not surprising. Between 2016 and 2018, 455 cyclists lost their lives in California.
