Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Multi-vehicle accidents are common on roads when hundreds of automobiles travel at high speeds close to one another. This makes it difficult for many drivers approaching an accident to stop at a safe distance, perhaps causing them to collide with other vehicles.
According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, over 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle incidents involving passenger vehicles, accounting for more than 40% of all motor vehicle accidents.
While it is impossible to avoid multi-vehicle accidents completely, some steps can be taken to reduce the risk. For example, drivers can prevent tailgating and leave plenty of space between themselves and the car. In addition, drivers should be aware of their surroundings and be ready to brake suddenly if necessary. By taking these precautions, drivers can help to minimize the chances of being involved in a multi-vehicle accident.
