[09-21-2022] Sacramento County, CA – One Person Killed, Another Two Injured Following a Fire Accident Near Franklin Boulevard

​​One man died, and two others were taken to the hospital after attempting to escape a fire near the intersection of 16th Avenue and Franklin Boulevard on Wednesday morning,

The Sacramento Fire Department received a call for assistance just after 3 a.m. from a 10-unit apartment building in Sacramento.

According to firefighters, most of the damage is on the second floor. Residents said they had to run past the flames that were engulfing the stairs they were using to flee the building.

Neighbors tried to apprehend one man who was forced to jump out of his second-story apartment as smoke filled his room.

“He couldn’t get out the front because it was already engulfed, and you could just see black smoke coming out the window right there, so he jumped out the second-story window,” resident Justin Woolf explained.

According to Woolf, the man injured his face and leg in the fall.

The fire remains under investigation.
