Pedestrian Accident Statistics
According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of lives lost in traffic-related events decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016. However, pedestrian deaths increased by 27% throughout that time period. Such statistics highlight the increasing dangers faced by pedestrians on American roads.
Cities with a high rate of collisions are targeted for Pedestrian Assessments funded by the Office of Traffic Safety, while the California Department of Transportation is increasing the number of roundabouts around the state. These evaluations are based on efficient engineering, instructive, and governing measures.
The amount of money allocated to improving pedestrian safety has increased by 40% over the past three years. The University of San Diego has released its Senior Pedestrian course.
