[02-04-2023] Los Angeles County, CA – Woman Killed After Car Crashed into Trees in Long Beach

A 50-year-old woman was killed while a man was gravely injured after their speeding vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant and trees in Long Beach on Saturday morning, February 04, 2023.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the fatal single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. at 3800 Atlantic Avenue in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood.

The local resident male driver was driving a blue 1995 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, speeding south on Atlantic when he lost control of it, causing the car to crash into the curb, a fire hydrant, and then into three trees.

Responding firefighters extricated the driver and his female passenger trapped in the wreckage. The woman, identified as Erica M., 50, was declared dead on the spot. Paramedics transported the man to a trauma facility in critical but stable condition.

The crash caused the truck’s two large containers of used cooking oil to spill onto the roadway, prompting the Long Beach Environmental Unit to organize the clean-up.
