Pedestrian Accident Statistics

From 2007 to 2016, the number of traffic-related fatalities fell by 14%, according to a research by the Governors Highway Safety Association. However, around that time, pedestrian fatalities rose by 27 percent. These numbers demonstrate the growing danger that pedestrians in the United States face on the nation’s roadways.

While the California Department of Transportation is increasing the roundabouts in cities with high collision rates, Pedestrian Assessments are sponsored by the Office of Traffic Safety. Used and trusted measures from engineering, education, and regulatory monitoring form the basis for these assessments.

Over the previous three years, California has raised funding for pedestrian safety by 40%. The Senior Pedestrian course from the University of San Diego is now available to the public.
