Two people sustained injuries after a two-vehicle collision resulting in one of the cars flying off the I-210 freeway and landing on the road below in Pasadena on Wednesday night, February 08, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly before 9:04 p.m. along the Interstate 210 freeway, and the car that flew off landed on Rosemead Boulevard in the northbound lanes.
The report received by the CHP indicated two vehicles, a black SUV and a silver Scion XB. The circumstances leading to the crash are still being investigated, and which car careened off the freeway remains unknown.
Responders from the Pasadena Fire Department and CHP arrived at the scene to find one passenger trapped inside the wreckage while another had managed to climb out of the car. The trapped person was extricated and both reportedly sustained moderate injuries. An unconfirmed report stated that the injured occupants were a male and a female.
The crash caused the traffic to back up as the area was closed off while the recovery of the trapped occupant and the assessment of the damage, including the guardrail, were done.
Media footage revealed an empty bottle of alcohol on the hood of the totally wrecked vehicle. Whether alcohol or drugs played a role is yet to be seen as the investigation continued.
