One person was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision caused by a racing driver in Fresno on Monday afternoon, February 13, 2023.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the fatal crash involving three vehicles occurred at about 1:30 p.m. along North Blackstone Avenue near East San Jose Avenue.
Identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as 18-year-old local resident Aeneas M., the driver was reportedly racing down the avenue in his Dodge Charger with a truck that did not get involved in the crash and fled the scene.
The Charger struck a red pickup truck before spinning into the intersection and colliding with a black pickup truck. The Charger driver was taken to a nearby hospital, eventually dying. Only one of the truck drivers went to the hospital despite both sustaining minor injuries.
The police were investigating security footage in the area as the search for the truck driver that was part of the race before it fled continued.
Blackstone has reopened after being shut down for several hours between Shaw and Barstow Avenues.

It is challenging to estimate the number of deaths attributed to reckless driving. However, between 2003 and 2007, irresponsible driving contributed to 56% of accidents, according to a survey conducted by AAA in 2009.
