[02-22-2023] Kern County, CA – Big Rig Collision on Highway 58 Injured Two People, Roads Closed

Roads were closed after a big rig collision injured two people in Tehachapi on Wednesday afternoon, February 23, 2023.

Authorities confirmed that the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 58.

According to reports, a big rig jackknifing and a car spinning out were the cause of the closure.

Two people from one of the big rigs were taken to a hospital in Tehachapi with serious injuries.

The wreckage spread from the eastbound lanes, across the median, and into the westbound lanes.

Due to the severity, it took responders all night to get all the big rigs and vehicles off the road.

Officers had to use a crane to lift a big rig off the road to get it out of the area.

When the roads are inadequate due to weather, officials recommend slowing down and leaving more space between cars.
