[04-03-2022] Fresno County, CA – Woman on E-Scooter Hospitalized After Colliding with Vehicle in Clovis

A scooter crash injured and hospitalized a woman in Clovis on Monday afternoon, April 3, 2023.

According to authorities, the collision transpired around 1:30 p.m. on Fowler Avenue, just south of Tollhouse Lane.

Reports stated that the woman was walking northbound on a sidewalk on the southbound side of the street. The car driver was exiting an apartment complex on a frontage road and did not notice the scooter.

Due to the impact, the rider sustained facial injuries and was said to be in fair condition. She was wearing a helmet and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to a recent study by UCLA, people injured in e-scooter accidents frequently sustain fractures and head trauma, necessitating emergency room treatment. The study used data from 249 patients treated at UCLA Health’s two hospitals between September 1, 2017, and August 31, 2018.

In 2020, 1,354 injured people were treated at 180 UCLA outpatient clinics, UCLA Health emergency departments, and urgent care centers over a more extended period — from January 1, 2014, to May 14, 2020 — allowing researchers to compare data before and after the rollout of shareable e-scooters.
