Fatal Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

According to a recent study, the number of hit-and-run fatalities is rising. In 2020, 24% of pedestrians were killed in hit-and-run accidents.

California has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries compared to other states. Approximately 893 pedestrians were killed and over 14,000 injured in California in 2012.

A hit-and-run collision occurs when one vehicle collides with another and then flees the scene without rendering assistance (including drivers who flee on foot). Furthermore, hit-and-run incidents may worsen outcomes due to victims being delayed or unable to receive medical attention in addition to the pain and suffering.

In recent years, pedestrians have been involved in increasing accidents and fatalities. The number of deaths associated with this accident has been alarmingly high for some time.

Injuries and fatalities to pedestrians are caused by vehicles failing to yield to them or braking too suddenly. Pedestrians should use sidewalks whenever possible, avoid using drugs and alcohol while walking, and exercise caution when crossing parking lots and driveways to minimize their risk of injury.

What To Do After an Accident

You should always stop if you are involved in a collision with another vehicle. The law severely punishes hit-and-runs. Immediately notify the police or CHP if anyone has been killed or injured in a collision and law enforcement is not yet present. An occupant of a vehicle involved in a collision that is physically incapable of reporting the crash to police or CHP may do so.

Your vehicle should be removed from the road if there are no injuries or fatalities. The authorities may impound vehicles not moved or removed from the street or highway.
