What To Do Following an Accident

In the event of an accident, safely pull over to the roadside as soon as possible. Those who try to flee the scene of an accident, no matter how minor, will be held responsible. If there has been a death or severe injury, you should contact the authorities even if you can’t get in touch with them. Anyone riding with someone they believe is under the influence should report it immediately.

If no one has been hurt, you can safely stop on the side of the road. The law allows for the seizure and impoundment of abandoned vehicles.

Fatal Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

There are more fatal hit-and-run incidents, according to a recent analysis. In 2020, 24% of all pedestrian fatalities were caused by hit-and-run incidents.

Compared to other states, California has the highest rate of severe and fatal pedestrian injuries. In 2012, California saw more than 14,000 pedestrian injuries and 893 fatalities.

Drivers who leave the scene of a collision between two vehicles without requesting help are known as “hit-and-run” drivers. This includes drivers who flee on foot. Additionally, because they are frequently delayed or do not receive medical attention, victims of hit-and-run accidents may experience additional social and financial costs.

Accidents involving pedestrians are frequently caused by sudden braking or failing to yield to pedestrians.

It is suggested that pedestrians use sidewalks whenever possible, refrain from using alcohol and drugs, and exercise caution when crossing parking lots or driveways to prevent collisions.
